WONG: Soft drape dresses, fitted jackets, skirts teamed up with silhouetted tops with colorfully vibrant and loud patterned stockings... all combined together to create oriental magic on ramp for designer Suneet Verma's show at India's premiere fashion event. Let's see what's on the catwalk. STORY: Slanted eyebrows and Geisha lips completed the look. Verma's 'Lure of the Orient' is inspired by colonial influence on the lifestyle and culture of the South East Asia. Verma weaved Western elements with oriental patterns and colors. One of his creations is a special kimono. [Suneet Verma, Fashion Designer]: "I necessarily don't want to do Kimonos and I necessarily don't want to be able to do coat costumes. I'm a fashion designer and I feel that it is important for the clothes to be able to live, eat, breathe, are wearable on a day-to-day basis." This white embroidered shirt teamed with a bright red sash is reminiscent of colors worn during the Tiananmen Square crackdown back in 1989. Verma's college J.J. Vallaya is impressed. [J.J. Vallaya, Verma's Colleague]: "Rich, regal, oriental, typically Suneet. Never lets anybody down. Lots of color. Interesting!" Suneet Verma is one of the 82 designers showing at the 'Wills India Fashion Week 08.' He has been known in the past to draw influences from various quarters like Greek art, Michelangelo's paintings, Vatican and tantric art. Events like the Wills India Fashion Week provide a platform for designers to directly interact with buyers and do good business.
